‘You Will Not Speak To Me That Way’: Portland Woman Goes To LA Fitness And Does Push-Ups. Then A Worker Intervenes

A routine workout session turned into a shocking confrontation when a gym member says she was verbally attacked while exercising.

What started as an innocent set of push-ups on the turf area escalated into a formal complaint, and the fallout was swift.

Fitness Instructor’s Inappropriate Outburst

In a trending video with more than 21,000 views, fitness creator Angie (@tattedmamatraining) recounts an unsettling experience at her LA Fitness location.

Angie says she was finishing her workout on the gym’s turf area, attempting an advanced exercise—balancing her hands on one weighted ball and her feet on another while doing push-ups.

With her headphones on, she says she was deeply concentrated on the challenging movement. A trainer she knows was filming nearby.

The trainer asked if her music was on, which confused Angie. She says she’d been so focused on her exercise that she couldn’t remember if she’d even turned on her music. That’s when he revealed that while Angie was concentrated on her workout with her headphones on, a fitness instructor teaching a nearby class had walked out and started yelling at her.

“He goes, ‘That woman teaching the class just walked out and yelled something,'” Angie recounts him informing her.

The Confrontation Escalates

What the fitness instructor allegedly said left Angie stunned.

“You wanna put that ball in my face, or do you wanna shove your a– in my face? Which one? Do you want me to look at your a– some more?” the instructor allegedly said, according to Angie’s video.

Angie waited for the instructor’s class to end before confronting her.

“In typical Angie fashion, I am going to confront you. You will not speak to me that way,” she says in the video. “And especially because I’m f—— minding my own damn business doing my own thing. Not bothering you one bit.”

When Angie walked into the room after the class ended, she says she asked the instructor if she needed something from her, noting that she had heard everything the instructor said, and it was captured in her video.

“She just started yelling and screaming and acting ridiculous,” Angie says. “And we exchanged some words. And I said, ‘Doesn’t matter. I got you all on video. And now corporate’s gonna hear about this.'”

Angie describes the instructor’s behavior as unlike anything she’d seen before, noting that the woman even started mimicking her. She captured that interaction on camera as well.

“I was just like, ‘Did you forget your meds today, or what?’ Like, seriously, I don’t know,” Angie says. “This is why I do not support all women, period. I do not.”

In the caption, she gave the following update: “She was fired! I found out today.”

Gym Harassment And Staff Responsibilities

While much discussion around gym harassment focuses on member-to-member incidents, Angie’s experience highlights that harassment can also come from gym staff themselves. According to imabi, gyms have a responsibility to create a safe and welcoming environment for all members, which includes clear policies on harassment communicated to both members and staff, along with regular training sessions to ensure everyone understands and can enforce these policies.

Tiger Fitness notes that harassment at gyms includes violence, intimidation, offensive sexual advances, and inappropriate behavior directed at members.

Gyms should have zero-tolerance policies toward harassment with clearly outlined and enforced consequences, demonstrating to members that their safety is taken seriously.

What to do if you experience gym harassment:

  • Speak up if safe to do so: Clearly and firmly tell the harasser that their behavior is unwelcome and inappropriate.
  • Report the incident: Use the reporting mechanisms provided by your gym and document the incident in detail, including dates, times, and descriptions of the behavior.
  • Seek support: Talk to friends, family, or other gym members who can offer emotional support.
  • Know your rights: Familiarize yourself with your gym’s harassment policies and any legal protections available to you.
  • Report to police if necessary: If the harassment continues after reporting to gym management, or if you fear for your safety, contact law enforcement.

When harassment does occur, Tiger Fitness advises that victims should report the incident to gym management or staff.

Every gym should have a written policy on sexual harassment and an internal protocol for investigating complaints.

Commenters React

“I can’t even begin to comprehend what she was upset about? I legit had to watch twice and still don’t know,” a top comment read.

“Please don’t say you were being extra. You were using a gym space as it’s intended to be used and she was out of control. I’m glad you were able to have her fired and not able to treat others this way. If you weren’t such a strong woman she could’ve made someone else too self conscious to come back again,” a person said.

“Envy is so ugly. Glad you confronted it!” another wrote.

“What brought that on? You’re nowhere near another person,” a commenter pointed out.
