Leonardo DiCaprio, along with Robert De Niro, has the unique distinction of being a muse for Martin Scorsese, one of the greatest directors to ever live.

Despite this fact, though, the two have actually never starred together in one of Scorsese’s films (although they did appear together in the 1993 film This Boy’s Life). Until now, as the pair — alongside Jesse Plemons and recent Academy Award winner Brendan Fraser — are starring in Marty’s latest film Killers of the Flower Moon.

A $200 million western mystery epic that’s being produced by Apple and distributed by Paramount, Killers of the Flower Moon is set to release sometime this year, although it does not have an official release date.

And when it does, its star Leonardo DiCaprio apparently believes that film fans should be bracing themselves for a masterpiece.

“I was talking to Leo about it. We had lunch before I came here. He said, ‘Jackie, I think we worked on a masterpiece,'” costume designer Jacqueline West recently said.

“I thought for Leo to say that, was something. He doesn’t say that lightly. He has been in the business since he was a little boy,” who worked with DiCaprio on the 2015 film The Revenant. [via Deadline]

If DiCaprio has high hopes for Killers of the Flower Moon, then odds are the studio does, too, which means there’s a chance they hold off on releasing the film until later this year so it stands a better chance as an awards season contender.

That said, Everything Everywhere All At Once, which recently became one of the most rewarded films in the history of the Academy Awards, was released in April, so perhaps studios releasing their award-season darlings in the late fall and early winter is a thing of the past.
