According to various reports, Leslye Headland — the co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer of the critically-acclaimed Netflix comedy series Russian Doll — has been tapped by the Mouse House to develop a Star Wars series for Disney+. At this time, while it’s unclear exactly what the series will be about and which characters it will follow, reports indicate that it will be a “female-centric” series.

Details of the exact plot of the series are being kept under wraps, but sources say it will be a female-centric series that takes place in a different part of the “Star Wars” timeline than other projects. Headland is said to be attached to write and serve as showrunner on the series, with the show currently staffing. [via Variety]

This still-untitled series joins the Obi-Wan Kenobi series and the Cassian Andor series as the Star Wars-related television projects currently in the work at Disney+. Their first Star Wars series, The Mandalorian, was a massive hit, with season two set to hit in October and season three already confirmed.

I can already sense that there are Star Wars hardos out there on the internet being predictably salty about the fact that the relatively unknown Headland has been tasked with this project in the galaxy far, far away,  but let me assure you by promising that Russian Doll — which can be streamed on Netflix right now — is an extremely enjoyable and consumable series. In fact, if my memory serves me correctly, I think I crushed the entire first season in one sitting. That’s all I need to know to give Headland my full vote of confidence.
