Most of us, while dining out, don’t pay too close attention to our food and drinks beyond the basics. We trust that whatever restaurant staff serves is safe, and most of the time, it is.
Sometimes, however, an unusual event might make us think about it twice.
For one TikTok creator, Yessica (@spanishdime), that moment came during a visit to LongHorn Steakhouse, and it’s safe to say she won’t be sipping her drink quite so casually next time.
While customers love the restaurant for its affordable steaks and parmesan-crusted everything, one woman’s experience was allegedly negatively colored by an unfortunate incident.
What Happened At Longhorn Steakhouse?
In a viral video posted to TikTok that has garnered over 4.2 million views, Yessica pulls out what appears to be a large glass shard from her drink.
“It’s not ice,” she says, tapping it against the wooden table.
She adds in the caption, “Not a piece of glass disguised as ice in my cup and not realizing until after i took a couple of sips,” tagging LongHorn Steakhouse directly.
Commenters React
In the comments section, viewers found the incident disturbing and urged her to take legal action.
“Girl lawsuit IMMEDIATELY,” one person wrote.
“This is a HUGE NO NO. The entire ice bin is supposed to be discarded and replaced if something breaks even near it. This is insane,” another said.
“What in the Final Destination??????” a third added.
“You just got rich,” another wrote.
What To Do If You Find Glass In Beverage, Food
According to a guide by the National Capital Poison Center, the first thing one should do if they suspect they’ve swallowed glass, especially a larger piece, is to seek emergency medical help.
The organization notes that smaller pieces are less likely to cause serious harm and may pass through the body without injury. However, larger pieces with sharp edges can cause damage to the throat or digestive tract.
As for legal action, experts say that without a clear injury, it’s unlikely a lawsuit would succeed. The presence of glass in one’s drink would probably be enough for them to get a comped meal or similar compensation.
If there is a provable injury, however, it may be worth considering a personal injury or defective product claim.
Additionally, consider reporting the incident to local health authorities or Poison Control. This can help trigger an investigation and potentially prevent others in the community from being harmed.
