‘It’s Cheaper Than Taco Bell Or Chick-fil-A‘: Woman Shares How To Get A Steak Dinner From Longhorn Steakhouse For Only $9.99. She Says It’s A Normal Amount Of Meat

As the cost of food remains high, it’s understandable that U.S. consumers are seeking out creative ways to stretch their dollar. One tactic that spans across many restaurants is the kids’ meal hack. The thinking is simple: Kids’ meals are more affordable. And, depending on where you order one from, the portion size may be just as substantial as an adult meal. You just have to know where to look.

One woman thinks she found just the spot: Longhorn Steakhouse. In a viral TikTok, Faith (@faithy_martinez) praises the Longhouse Steakhouse kids steak, saying it is the same size as the adult steak for a fraction of the price. She liked it so much that she ordered it twice in a short period of time.

$9.99 Longhorn Steakhouse Steak Dinner

“We picked up dinner again,” TikTok creator Faith (@faithy_martinez) kicks off her video. She sits at a table with her Longhorn Steakhouse meal unpacked on the table. There’s steak, a potato, french fries, and a drink. She holds up the brown Longhorn Steakhouse to-go bag.

“We both got a steak meal for $9.99,” she adds, referring to herself and her husband. She pulls out a receipt and points at the price printed on it.

“Then, we added a side of French fries for $2.99. Our total was $25.27. It’s cheaper than stinking Taco Bell or Chick-fil-A these days,” she says. CBS states the average fast-food meal costs $11.56, making this steak meal more than a dollar cheaper.

“We both got a 6-ounce sirloin. I got a sweet potato,” she adds.

She says she and her husband ordered this meal twice while on their honeymoon in Gulf Shores, Alabama, “because it was so stinking good.”

“If you order it off the regular menu, it’s $17,” she states. “But you order it off the kids’ menu, it’s the same amount of food, and it’s $9.99.” She then douses her steak with A1 barbecue sauce and digs into her meal, relishing every bite.

Did Viewers Agree?

Many viewers agreed with Faith and shared that they have used the kids’ meal hack at different restaurants.

“The adult comes with two sides but I think it’s still cheaper to order kids with an extra side. I get the kids one sometimes even dining in the restaurant,” one viewer commented.

“We do this! Husband and I each get the meal and then sometimes order a side salad to share. Fills us both up!” another concurred.

“Stuffed mushrooms are good too!! I always get the baked sweet potato with my kids steak,” a third stated.

But a few detractors felt the steak wasn’t big enough for their needs.

“That’s not a steak…. [that’s] a snack,” one commenter remarked.

“Maybe I’m just fat but this wouldn’t fill me or my husband,” a second said.

Longhorn Steakhouse Adult Vs. Kids’ Meal: Is There A Difference?

According to the restaurant’s online menu, the most affordable adult steak menu option is the Renegade Sirloin combo. It starts at $16.79 in the Gulf Shores area.

This menu item comes with the option of a 6- or 8-ounce sirloin steak seasoned in Prairie Dust and grilled. It’s accompanied by a choice of soup or salad and an additional side. On the other hand, the kid sirloin is grilled, but it doesn’t list which seasoning comes with it, if any. Unlike the adult counterpart, this meal comes with only one side and a kid-sized beverage. Indeed, both meals serve the same size steak. However, the adult combo has more options for sides.

The only catch is you likely can’t order a kids’ meal when you are dining in. Many restaurants carry policies against that. But you can usually order one to-go, as restaurants have no way of knowing you don’t have a little one at home waiting to be fed.
