Where’s Bradley Cooper been these last few years, you ask? Making Maestro, his directorial follow-up to 2018’s A Star Is Born that follows the life and career of iconic American composer Leonard Bernstein. On Wednesday, October 25, Netflix released the official trailer for Maestro, which will begin streaming on December 20.

In addition to Cooper, Maestro stars Academy Award nominee Carey Mulligan — who is actually the top-billed actor on the Netflix film — as his wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein.

Here is the official trailer for Maestro, via Netflix:

From director Bradley Cooper, Maestro is the towering and fearless love story chronicling the lifelong relationship between cultural icon Leonard Bernstein and Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein. A love letter to life and art, Maestro, at its core, is an emotionally epic portrayal of family and love.

Given the reception to Maestro — which boasts the legendary likes of Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg as its producers (not executive producers, true producers) — following its premiere at the 80th Venice International Film Festival earlier this year, the film will likely be nominated in numerous categories at next year’s Academy Awards, including Best Picture.

Both Cooper and Mulligan also stand strong chances at being nominated for Best Actor/Best Director and Best Actress, respectively.

The Best Picture race at next year’s Oscars, in particular, is shaping up to be one of the most interesting in years with films such as Oppenheimer, Barbie, Killers of the Flower Moon, and Maestro expected to be among the nominees. If the Academy actually stood for representing the entire scope of cinema, John Wick: Chapter 4 would also be nominated for Best Picture.

In addition to hitting Netflix on December 20, Maestro will also have a limited theatrical run beginning on November 22.
