Last week, Ant-Man and The Wasp star Evangeline Lilly may have talked herself out of the Marvel Cinematic Universe when she ludicriously stated she was more interested in having her freedom than she was in self-isolating and protecting her dad who lives with her and has stage 4 leukemia.

“I am also immune compromised at the moment,” Lilly commented to a fan who questioned her rationale. “I have two young kids. Some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices.”

Lilly also downplayed the virus, referring to it as just a “respiratory flu” and said, “Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law [sic] for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu,” she responded in another comment. “It’s unnerving…Let’s be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious — keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don’t abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power.”

She then added, “There’s ‘something’ every election year” as if the global pandemic taking place is some kind of hoax or conspiracy theory.

Reaction to her comments reportedly led to her role in Ant-Man 3 being reworked to reduce her screen time in the movie.

Celebrities also weighed in, including actor Billy Baldwin who commented on Lilly’s post, “Fine if you value you freedom over your life… not cool at all if you value your freedom over all other lives. #stayhome.”

Game of Thrones’ and Dark Phoenix star Sophie Turner took a semi-veiled shot at Lilly in an Instagram Live video, saying, ““Here’s the tea. Stay inside. Don’t be fucking stupid, even if you count your ‘freedom’ over — I don’t know, what is it — like, your health? I don’t give a ffffff about your freedom. You can be infecting other people, other vulnerable people around you, by doing this. So stay inside, guys. It’s not cool and it’s not big and it’s not clever.”

The most scathing response to Lilly, however, came from her former Lost co-star Maggie Grace, who commented on Lilly’s Instagram post with a scorching hot response to her lack of understanding of the situation.

“Hey there, I read your pre-edit post and I find it concerning. There’s no need to panic, but at the same time this about all of us- the vulnerable, the immunocompromised, older folks. Sure, it’s a free country, but how about choosing to exercise some of that wonderful freedom to have some compassion, trust the extensive science here and not overwhelm health system. No doctor should have to choose which patients get life saving care and which patients get sent home to die- the sort of triage that is tragically happening in Italy right now.

“Please out Johns Hopkins, Stat News, think about how these small decisions affect your dad and those in your community as ventilators run out-and as you use your influence on such a large group of other people. I say this with all humility, please rethink this. Your kids will be just fine without going to gymnastics, I promise. 🙂 Be well. PS Daniel said he is doing a lot better btw. I don’t know, Maybe you guys wanna chat?”

Grace is most likely referring to their Lost co-star Daniel Dae Kim who revealed that he tested positive for coronavirus.
