As fast food chains going, McDonald’s generally pretty overrated in this writer’s opinion.
It may well offer the worst fast food burger of the big three and don’t even get me started on how gross McNuggets are.
But the fries — oh, those glorious fries — are far and away the best in the fast food game.
In fact, I’d even go so far as to say they may be the best item in the entire fast good game. And you’re talking to a guy who has eaten way more fast food than he would care to admit.
There’s just something about the perfect combination of thiccness, crispiness and saltiness that stands head and shoulders above the rest.
Don’t believe us? Well just check out this consumer report by analytics platform CivicScience. The company polled over 7,000 consumers about their preferred fast-food fries. The answer, resoundingly, was McDonald’s.
The golden arches grabbed a whopping 50 percent of the total vote. The next closest chains were Wendy’s at 15 percnet and Chick-fil-A at 14 percent.
Truly, a monumental blowout.
But why are we out here making you guys so hungry?
Well, that’s because today (Thursday, July 13) is National French Fry Day, which sounds made up but who are we to question it?
Anyway, in honor of the (we must assume) longstanding holiday, McDonald’s is offering free french fries of any size. The promotion comes through their app and does not require any additional purchase.
That could be an up to $6 value depending on where you live and if you want a large fry. (Don’t kid yourself, you want a large fry).
But all is not lost if you don’t see this all-important article in time. McDonald’s also gives away a free medium fry through its app on Fridays should you make a $1 purchase or more.
It’s not a free large fry. But hey, some fries are better than no fries.
