The first look at Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler as Tubbs and Crockett in the upcoming Miami Vice reboot has been released. Miami Vice ’85 will be directed by Top Gun: Maverick and F1 filmmaker Joseph Kosinski.
On Monday, Universal Pictures released the first look at the two leads in character: Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan as Ricardo Tubbs and Oscar nominee Austin Butler as Sonny Crockett. The images are a pair of character one-sheets that were released to mark the official start of production.

Dan Gilroy, the writer of Nightcrawler, wrote the screenplay, which is based on the pilot and first season of the original TV series. Miami Vice ’85 is currently scheduled to be released in movie theaters in the United States on May 19, 2028.
In addition to Jordan and Butler in the iconic lead roles of Tubbs and Crockett, Miami Vice ’85 will also star Walton Goggins as the lead villain alongside Alden Ehrenreich, Camila Morrone, Danny Ramirez, John Leguizamo, Andre Holland, Michael Irby, Whitney Peak, Edi Gathegi and Andrew Schulz.
The original NBC series, executive produced by Heat and Last of the Mohicans director Michael Mann, starred Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas as Crockett and Tubbs. Mann later directed a 2006 big-screen adaptation with Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx in the lead roles.
While the reception to the ’06 film was middling upon release, it has since developed a cult following. Earlier this month, Mann’s updated Miami Vice: Director’s Final Cut (2006) had its world premiere on October 3 at BeyondFest in Los Angeles. The film is also being released on 4K in December.
