Ahead of the release of his latest film Ferrari, acclaimed director Michael Mann confirmed that his next project would be Heat 2, a prequel/sequel to his beloved 1995 crime drama Heat.

Speaking at an event in London, via Deadline, the 80-year-old Mann explicitly confirmed that Heat 2 — based on the novel that was released in 2022 — would be the next movie he shoots.

“Yes. Meg Gardiner and myself wrote the novel Heat 2, which came out right when we were shooting Ferrari. It did very well. I plan to shoot that next,” Mann said.

In addition to confirming Heat 2 is on deck, Mann also discussed reports that Adam Driver, who stars as Enzo Ferrari in his latest movie Ferrari, will be taking over the iconic role of Neil McCauley from Robert De Niro.

“Perhaps. We don’t talk about that yet. Let me put it this way: Adam and I got along like a house on fire [on Ferrari]. We have the same work ethic – which is pretty intense. We like each other, and we had a great time working together artistically.”

Heat 2 serves as both a prequel and a sequel to Heat, as it shows what McCauley was up to seven years before the events of Heat and the fallout from their Los Angeles heists in 1995 that make up the plot of the film.

Ferrari, which is Mann’s first feature film since 2015’s Blackhat, will be hitting movie theaters in the United States on December 25.

In addition to Driver, Ferrari also stars Academy Award winner Penelope Cruz as Laura Ferrari. Shailene Woodley, Sarah Gadon, Gabriel Leone, Jack O’Connell, and Patrick Dempsey also feature in the film.
