Easter is almost upon us, which means stores are fully-stocked with the usual sugary goodies like Peeps, chocolate bunnies, and, of course, jelly beans. Man, do we love us some jelly beans. In fact, did you know that Americans jam more than 16 billion jelly beans into our pieholes in and around on Easter? 16…BILLION.

Heck, we even have a National Jelly Bean Day (coming up on April 22nd). But which jelly bean flavors do people love most? Thanks for asking.

Using 10-plus years of sales data and polls of over 12,000 candy customers and Facebook followers, CandyStore.com has ranked the most-loved jelly bean flavors in all 50 states and the 32 most popular flavors nationally for 2018.

And what they discovered is that there is a new most popular jelly bean flavor nationwide. Buttered Popcorn has officially overtaken Licorice. Blechhh to both, I say!

Here’s the very odd list of the top 21 jelly bean flavors overall. It’s like I don’t know you people at all anymore.

Here’s the rest of the top 30…

#22 Banana
#23 Lime
#24 Sour Jelly Beans
#25 Tutti Frutti
#26 Maple
#27 Vanilla
#28 Cream Soda
#29 Raspberry
#30 Pomegranate

How Vanilla, Cream Soda and Raspberry are so far down on this list is a mystery to me.

Now then, let’s take a look at the favorite jelly bean flavors for each state, shall we? We shall.

Turns out that y’all really need to expand your jelly bean horizons a bit. The country seems to be stuck in a flavor rut.

Nine states chose Buttered Popcorn, eight picked Black Licorice, five prefer Cinnamon, four like Watermelon the best, while Juicy Pear, Cherry, Orange, and Green Apple made up most of the rest. That’s just eight flavors for 46 of the 50 states.

At least my home state of Illinois went a little nuts, saying Chocolate jelly beans are the tops. And right next door, Indiana favors Blueberry. Kudos to Montana as well for taking the road untraveled by picking Cotton Candy. As for Massachusetts, I have NO idea what they are thinking.
