Finally, some good news! After axing a handful of series in recent weeks, Netflix has announced that one of its most popular series, Narcos: Mexico, is returning for a third season.
While Season 1 and 2 star Diego Luna won’t be returning as Miguel Ángel Félix Gallardo for Season 3, the equally excellent Scoot McNairy will be returning as DEA Agent Walt Breslin.

The upcoming season will be set in the 1990s, a time “when the globalization of the drug business ignites”, and will follow the war that breaks out after Felix’s empire fragments following his arrest. At Netflix describes it, “as newly independent cartels struggle to survive political upheaval and escalating violence, a new generation of Mexican kingpins emerge. But in this war, truth is the first casualty – and every arrest, murder, and take-down only pushes real victory further away.”
“I am grateful for my five years at the helm of Narcos and Narcos: Mexico and am immensely proud of what this spectacular team has achieved with these shows. Carlo Bernard is the first person I ever spoke to about this project, over ten years ago, and I am extremely pleased to leave the steering of Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico in his very capable hands,” former showrunner Eric Newman said in a statement.
At this time, it is unclear when Season 3 of Narcos: Mexico will be released.
