The shooting last month of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, Jillian Shriner, made headlines nationwide due in part to his celebrity status as a musician and also due in larger part to the fact that she was shot on her own lawn while LAPD officers were combing the neighborhood looking for hit-and-run suspects. Now, new footage of the incident has been released.

LAPD released body camera and home security camera footage of the officer-involved shooting where Jillian Shriner, wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, was seen pointing a gun at LAPD officers. In the video, officers can be heard clearly telling Shriner to drop her weapon. She did not comply. As they said “Lay the gun down… Ma’am, put the gun down. Ma’am, we’re trying to help you!” she then appeared to point the pistol at the officers.

The body camera footage from officers in the Eagle Rock neighborhood searching for three hit-and-run suspects captures the officers peering over her fence and warning her before the shooting began after she raised her pistol at the officers, which has been highlighted in the newly-released footage.

The shooting took place at the family’s home on Tuesday, April 8th. After the shooting of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner’s wife, she was taken to into custody and a nearby hospital for treatment. Jillian Shriner was said to be facing a charge of attempted murder for allegedly pointing her pistol at the LAPD officers ordering her to drop her weapon but NBC News Los Angeles’ Rebecca Cohen reports that at this time no charges have been filed.

There are some states in the U.S. where shooting someone simply for trespassing is legal, that is not the case in California. Furthermore, they had identified themselves as officers of the law and not merely trespassers.

In California, there is something called The Castle Doctrine (from Penal Code 198.5) where deadly force is allowed by a home owner when a trespasser has used force to break in and there is a “reasonable fear of imminent harm” from the intruder. California is not a ‘Stand Your Grand’ state though…

In the video above, at least 8 gunshots can be heard. Shriner was said to be “grazed” by one of the bullets in the shoulder, the wound she was later treated for at the hospital.

According to information released by the LAPD, a spent casing from Jillian Shriner’s pistol was found at the scene.
