Wife of Weezer bassist Scott Shriner, Jillian Shriner, was shot by LAPD in the front yard of her house and then arrested for attempted murder after allegedly pulling a gun on police. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon and is under investigation.
Police were in the Eagle Rock neighborhood searching for a hit-and-run suspect when, according to reports, they spotted the Weezer bassist’s wife in her front yard holding a gun.
LAPD reportedly shot Jillian Shriner after pleading with her multiple times to drop the weapon. She reportedly refused the directive and raised her gun and pointed it at the officers which led to the shooting.
According to reports, Jillian Shriner, wife of Scott Shriner who is the longest-tenured bassist in Weezer, was shot in her shoulder and is the only person who sustained injuries in the back-and-forth.
The LAPD’s police report says Jillian Shriner fled into her home after being shot in the shoulder. Soon after she exited her home, was taken into custody, and brought to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Ultimately, LAPD officers did find one of the three hit-and-run suspect they were searching for. That person received a citation and was released. The other 2 suspects were not found.
The Weezer bassist’s wife is now facing a charge of attempted murder for pointing her pistol at LAPD officers before she was shot.
It is hard to imagine what was going through everyone’s minds when she allegedly pointed her pistol at LAPD officers, what led to that decision, why she was holding a pistol in her front yard to begin with, and if there was any way to resolve the conflict that didn’t involve her getting shot. Thankfully, she didn’t receive mortal wounds and only sustained a bullet to the shoulder.
Jill Shriner and Weezer bassist Scott Shriner have been married since 2005. Prior to joining the band, Scott Shriner was in the U.S. Marine Corps for 2 years. He joined Weezer in 2001 and has since gone on to become the longest-serving bassist in the band.
