A woman gets a large package from her new corporate job to welcome her to the team. She can’t believe the expensive items it contains. However, some viewers say the generous gifts could be a “red flag.”
In a video with over 723,000 views, TikToker Hannah Rae (@hannahrae100) holds a large, brown gift bag. She says she received it on the first day of her new corporate job.
“This might be the most insane welcome package I’ve ever received,” she remarks.
First, she pulls out a box of brand-new AirPods.
“I think part of the reason they give this is they don’t use a headset,” she says. “Which I actually prefer. I think the headsets are so ugly.”
She continues that she filled out a survey before her first day that included questions about her favorite candy. She pulls out three bags of the candy she specified and a $25 Starbucks gift card.
Finally, she pulls out several items of company merch. She covers the logo to avoid disclosing the company she works for. She holds up a hat and a Vuori-brand sweatshirt.
“I thought that care package was very thoughtful,” she says at the end of the clip.
Why Do Companies Send Welcome Packages?
According to job board Indeed, many companies send workers extra swag on top of necessary equipment to boost morale before they start their new role. These packages may include company-branded merchandise, snacks, or tech.
Human Resources (HR) workers share what they put in packages for incoming employees on the r/corporate subreddit.
“Our welcome box had usb cables, a ring light(small one for like a cell phone), a high quality notebook, some pens, a company branded yeti coffee tumbler, and some other junk,” one writes.
Another says, “The best welcome kits are useful first, branded second. The tiny logo is fine, but nobody needs another random notebook.”
Is The Generous Welcome Package A Red Flag?
Some commenters suggest that the welcome package could be a sign of “corporate love bombing.”
“This is such a red flag and no one seems to realize,” one writes.
Another suggests that the welcome package could be covering up larger employee satisfaction issues. They say, “So yeah thats a company that demands yet doesnt pay for overtime and has issues retaining employees.. get all you can out of it.”
“Let me hold your hand when i tell you this… you are about to WORKKKKKK sis,” a third jokes.
However, others say the welcome package makes them want to apply to the same company.
A commenter says, “Ma’am imma send you my resume. You apply me for whatever job you have lol.”
“Where you work at and are they hiring??” a second asks.
@hannahrae100 Isnt this such a nice welcome package?! #welcomepackage #corporateamerica #corporatelifebelike #corporatelife #newjobcheck
