A New York man went to the hot food bar at Whole Foods. Then he found something squirming inside his meal.
Andrew (@theandrewzion) said that he found a maggot inside his hot bar to-go box at a Whole Foods in New York City. The content creator publicly lambasted the company, writing, “Your food safety measures are awful!!!!!!” in the caption of his video, which has more than 102,000 views.
Is The Whole Foods Hot Bar Safe?
Andrew said that in New York City, everyone is about “convenience.” For that reason, the Whole Foods hot bar is a destination for some New Yorkers who need quick meals. But the content creator found a less than savory creature moving around next to a side of broccoli.
In the video, a maggot appears to squirm inside a brown to-go box. Andrew zooms in on the reported insect, which is covered in a thick, brown sauce.
It’s unclear whether the insect itself is a “maggot” or another form of larva.
In the comment section, a commenter guessed as to how the larva got inside Andrew’s food. “Did you have broccoli? They live right up under the broccoli tops and I swear no matter how long you soak the broccoli for they never die. They’re the reason I don’t eat broccoli anymore,” they said.
Andrew replied, “Oh that’s not- I believe I ate the broccoli first.”
Andrew said he found the larva at a Whole Foods at the 270 Greenwich Street. BroBible attempted to contact this specific location for comment, but a representative at the store did not provide comment.
In a separate media inquiry, BroBible reached out to Whole Foods’ regional office for comment, but a representative was not able to provide an immediate response.

Outside of Andrew’s experience, commenters shared their own experience with the Whole Foods Hot Bar.
“Worst food poisoning of my life was from the union square Whole Foods hot bar,” one commenter said.
“There were maggots in fried fish I had, it was too late I already ate most of it. I was in the hospital a few hours later,” another commenter said. “Thankfully organs can’t come through our mouth. I was sickkkkkk.”
Online, other individuals have reported being “poisoned” at the Whole Foods hot bar. A customer in Sebastopol, California, for instance, purchased meatloaf and rice and then got sick after eating it. Another customer reported getting sick after eating food at a Whole Foods hot bar in Greensboro, North Carolina.
What Should He Do?
It’s unclear whether Andrew returned to the location at 270 Greenwich Street to report the issue. In the comment section of his video, however, viewers recommended that the content creator make a stop to discuss the issue with customer service.
“Omg take this video to customer service and tell the to inform the hot bar ppl I used to work there they take that s— so serious,” one viewer said.
Andrew replied, “Wait I’ll do that today actually! Hopefully they give my money back!”
