When Iron Man first debuted back in 2008, Marvel Studios likely had no idea that they would be the creators of the highest-grossing movie of all-time.

Sure, they had ambition, but to be able to project the unabashed success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would take Doctor Strange-levels of foresight. After all, the second film in the MCU was The Incredible Hulk and we all know how that turned out.

Nevertheless, after ten years of universe building and box office record-smashing, the Marvel Cinematic Universe reached its decade-long climax with the release of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

And just like it took 10 years of leg work to get to the cultural event that was Avengers: Endgame, it appears that it will take another decade of MCU films until we see our next Avengers flick.

Speaking to CinemaBlend, Trinh Tran — an executive producer who has worked on Endgame and other MCU films — gave fans an idea of when they can expect the next Avengers-level film, and unfortunately for fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it may not be for some time.

“Our focus right now is to make sure that the titles that we’ve released in Phase Four … obviously those stories are going to be new, exciting, different, and can connect with the audience like the other movies have been,” Tran said.

“Over 10 years ago, it had always been our dream to get to ‘Infinity War’ and ‘Endgame’ level. We didn’t know obviously where that was going to go at the start of the studio, but it’s incredible to know that we were able to accomplish that.”

“Now it’d be amazing if we could get to that level 10 years later, so I think it’s a dream to continue doing that and build upon the MCU and the connective tissue that we have.” [via CinemaBlend]

While we may not see an Avengers film for another decade, there’s still plenty of Marvel Cinematic Universe content on the horizon, as 10 projects — five films and five Disney+ series — are set to be released between now and 2021.
