Not many of us get to experience what it’s like to sail on a yacht. According to one woman who allegedly gained access to an event on an NFL player’s boat, however, it’s not all sunshine and rainbows.
In a TikTok video, which got over 10,600 views, creator Isabella (@izwakeup.clips) retells a story about just how disturbing things can get on a professional athlete’s yacht if you’re invited as a woman.
What Happened Aboard The NFL Player’s Yacht?
“Guys, imagine this,” she begins. “You go to a yacht in Miami. It’s some NFL player’s yacht. … You’re chilling at the dock.”
She says an hour went by without the boat ever leaving. “And then the host of the boat comes and says, ‘Hey, all the girls, come gather in the living room,’” she says.
He says the host then ordered them to stand in a circle against the perimeter of the living room.
Then, the host allegedly did something unsettling.
“He goes, ‘You come here, you come here, you come here, you come here, right?’” Isabella continues, saying he picked out 12 out of 40 girls.
“He says, ‘I’m so sorry, guys,’” she recalls. “’You gotta get off the boat.’ … to the 12 girls.”
According to her, the girls were confused and asking what it was all about. “He’s not giving an explanation,” she says. “He’s just like… You have to go. I don’t have time to explain it.”
She says the girls got off the boat feeling frustrated, having looked forward to seeing the NFL football player. “They wanted a party, right?” she says.
What Does ‘Chopped’ Mean?
After the boat leaves, the host reportedly reveals the reason why the 12 women were kicked out. “We were way over capacity,” she says he told another guy. Had to kick off the chopped ones.”
The slang word “chopped” in this context was most likely used to mean “ugly” or “unattractive,” according to Merriam-Webster.
Isabella later revealed this wasn’t her own story. “If I was on that boat I would’ve just left,” she wrote in the caption. “Keep that energy away from me.”
She added in the comments, “I was not even there, read the caption. This is just what someone told me.”
Commenters React
In the comments, viewers weren’t all that sympathetic.
“How is that crazy, that was the most mundane story of all time,” one said.
“Buy your own yacht, and that wouldn’t be a problem,” another wrote.
“What’s crazy about that?” asked a third. “Why do you think you’re on the yacht in the first place?”
What Is The ‘Yacht Girl’ Stereotype?
According to Urban Dictionary, a yacht girl is “an attractive young woman who finds ways to get access to luxurious surroundings by being available to wealthy men.”
This definition is quite murky, but according to an opinion piece by Vogue, these women can be well-known models, actresses, influencers, and socialites.
The piece adds that the internet’s obsession with the idea of a yacht girl has a lot to do with some type of discomfort with women. “It’s the lingering belief that a woman cannot simply enjoy luxury, leisure, or proximity to power without owing something for it,” they write. “That her presence must be transactional and her bikini is a receipt.”
On Reddit, some women have shared their experience being employed as a “yacht girl.”
“We usually sign with event and marketing agencies that have connections and we get sent emails/texts about jobs,” one wrote. “It’s like gig work but for hospitality I guess.”
