‘My Husband Stopped Using Nike Bc Of This’: Missouri Man Gets Nike Socks For Christmas. Then He Notices Something Strange About Every Pair 6 Months Later

When you get gifted socks from an established brand like Nike, you expect quality. Sadly, as explained in a viral video, one TikToker (@ryguyactive) was left thoroughly disappointed by his festive present.

Wearing a black sock on his hand, the TikToker said, “Can somebody at Nike tell me what’s going on with y’all socks?”

“I bought a bunch of your socks in 2015 and they last me until this last Christmas,” he continued. “I threw all of mine away.”

He added, “I ripped all the holes out, finally. They finally all went bad so I threw them all away.”

Additionally, he continued, “I asked for socks for Christmas, and every single one of my pairs of socks for Christmas, all have the same exact hole in the heel.”

Moreover, as he said this, he wore a black Nike sock on his hand and drew attention to the gaping hole in the heel part of the sock.

“Every single one of my socks,” he added.

“You guys want a billion dollars for a pair of socks? I bit the bullet, and that’s about all I asked for for Christmas, and it’s June, and they’re all—they are all destroyed. This is ridiculous. This is—the downfall’s crazy.”

The video has garnered 1.1 million views. BroBible reached out to the TikToker via TikTok direct message and to Nike via email.

Did People Agree With Him?

This wouldn’t be the first time Nike had a design flaw—with one recent example being the World Cup jersey. However, most commenters empathized with the TikToker.

“Anyone remember how the heels and toes used to be thicker?” one asked.

“It’s the fabrication…” a second explained. “They used to be 100% cotton and now most are polyester.”

“Agreed,” a third added. “Thought it was just us!”

While a fourth admitted, “Ohhh I owe my son an apology I thought he was rubbing his heels together!!!!”

And a fifth chimed in, “Same with my kids socks. I’m done buying Nike socks.”

On the other hand, there were those commenters who had reservations.

“Nothing and I mean nothing is made to last anymore and it’s on purpose,” a sixth stated. “More money, more waste.”

Why Do Nike Socks Keep Getting Holes?

Alongside those in the comments with this same issue, there’s also a Redditor who describes an identical problem.

In a 2-year-old post on the r/mildlyinfuriating subreddit, the user shared a photo of his Nike socks lined up—all with that exact same hole in the heel.

“Same hole in every one of my Nike socks,” he wrote.

One Reddit user offered a solution, writing, “I switched to Darn Tough a few years ago. They are pricey per pair but guaranteed for life. They will replace any socks you wear out of, forever.”

Another quipped, “Rub some lotion on those heels.”

While a third shared, “Do you happen to wear crocs? I notice the few times I wear crocs with any socks they end up with holes in the heels.”

@ryguyactive

for 6 million dollars a sock they should last more than 6 months. the ones I bought in the last lasted me nearly a decade. Nike socks are ass now #nike #justdoit #nikesocks #socks #dryfit

Less helpfully, a fourth remarked, “No offense, but that’s what you get for buying for brand and not buying for quality.”

While a fifth theorized a different issue, “I have the same problem don’t know the reason though but my theory is that I sweet to much on the feet and when they wet and I’m in my saftey work shoes for 9 hours, it rubs the sock around and idk hole happens? Other theory is that the sweet when dried makes the sock hard therefore easier to rip a hole while walking.”

In response to this, the original Redditor said, “My feet sweat a lot too so maybe that is the problem.”

For the Redditor at least, it looks like they might benefit from waterproof socks—but when it comes to the hole issue, the solution seems less clear-cut.
