Mississauga Animal Services recently responded to a rescue call when an Ontario man found a large python in his car’s engine compartment.

Officials in Mississauga wrote, in a massive understatement, that the city’s Animal Services had “quite the surprise” when police officers had to assist in the removal of a python trapped inside a vehicle’s engine compartment.

“After a resident called a mechanic, our team arrived, and one officer reached into the engine,” the city wrote on Instagram. “To everyone’s shock, the python calmly climbed right onto their arm for a safe rescue.⁣”

“The snake was dehydrated with a few minor scratches, but it is now recovering at the Mississauga Animal Shelter and getting proper care. Calls like this show how ready our officers are for anything, from pets to exotic animals, all to keep our community safe.⁣”

The discovery of a python in a car’s engine compartment led to several questions

“I have too many questions… can we confirm HOW a PYTHON ends up randomly in an engine and HOW this person became aware? I can’t rest without knowing,” one person wrote on Instagram.

“Question: how did a tropical snake end up under the hood of a car in Mississauga?!!!! What’s next: alligator grabs and pull you under the car? scary!!!!” another person commented on Facebook.

“Whereabouts in Mississauga was this? I’d freak out,” read another Facebook comment.

Thankfully, it was “just” a ball python, which is often kept as a pet. Which probably explains how it got there in the first place. Unlike the Burmese pythons in Florida, which are disrupting the ecosystem and being turned into pizza toppings.

“I’m the first place in the world to accept python as currency,” Dustin Crum, the owner of Wildman’s Pizza, Pasta and Python, recently explained. “So you can trade in a python for a pizza. We do python toppings, python pizza, iguana, you know, whatever. “
