Despite the fact that he was nominated for an Academy Award last year and will be the star of Ridley Scott’s highly-anticipated, long-awaited sequel to Gladiator next year, up-and-coming Irish A-lister Paul Mescal is apparently using dating apps like the rest of us.

While it’s unclear if he’s on one of the exclusive platforms like Raya, looking for something serious on Hinge, or slumming it on Tinder, a new report from The Mirror has revealed that the 27-year-old Aftersun breakout has been spotted “on the apps.”

Our sources spotted the Normal People actor looking for love on a dating app, which he is said to have signed up to earlier this year.

One source said: “Paul, like many other actors, has a mad schedule which can make getting to know people hard. The great thing about apps is that you can chat to people wherever you are.” [via The Mirror]

Mescal was previously dating fellow rising superstar (albeit in music) Phoebe Bridgers before the pair split up earlier this year. Some movie fans have also speculated about a brewing romance between Mescal and his former Normal People co-star Daisy Edgar Jones.

Following his star-making performances in the 2020 Hulu series Normal People and the 2022 Best Picture nominated film Aftersun, Mescal has appeared in movies such as God’s Creatures, Carmen, All of Us Strangers, and Foe, the latter of which hit theaters earlier this month.

In addition to Gladiator 2 — which also features Denzel Washington, Joseph Quinn, Fred Hechinger, Pedro Pascal, Connie Nielsen, Djimon Hounsou, and Derek Jacobi — Mescal is set to star in the film adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s iconic Broadway play Merrily We Roll Along.

At this time, Gladiator 2 is currently scheduled to be released in movie theaters in the United States on Friday, November 22, 2024.
