A woman has gone viral after discovering something unusual in her Pillsbury biscuits. Here's what viewers said.

Pillsbury biscuits go great with gravy. But after the discovery of a red mystery substance on the dough, one woman’s dinner went out the window.

As previously reported by BroBible, Pillsbury biscuits have gone viral in the past for traces of foil or metal in them. A woman has made a new discovery in the delicacy.

In the video, TikToker Kim (@where.kim.goes) shows the biscuit to the camera. It has a deep red spot surrounded by yellow. She then focused the camera on the other biscuits, two of which had visibly yellow spots. The clip garnered 1 million views.

BroBible reached out to General Mills via email.

Pillsbury Biscuits Red Substance: Is It Butter?

Multiple commenters believed that the coloring was butter.

“It’s butter,” one wrote. “Might be some type of fake butter but butter nonetheless.”

“Note that it says ‘butter tastin’ not ‘butter,'” a second added. “It’s the goop that isn’t butter but is manufactured to deliver a butter-like flavor. Pointing out that butter isn’t this color is not relevant because it’s not actual butter.”

“Babes it’s the injected margarine,” a third said.

A fourth added that is it probably “poorly mixed dye in the artificial butter flavored additive. probably won’t hurt you but might have a much higher concentration of an unintended flavor.”

Other theories floating in the comment section include bacteria and production grease.

As a fifth put it, “It’s one of three things: Annato extract, bacteria from a bad batch, food grade mechanical grease that fell into the batch. I’d toss it and get a new can on the chance it’s bacteria. You can and should contact Pillsbury and let them know. They’ll want pictures of the label showing the batch.”

“Oh I’d throw up… probably cry too. Because wtf are they doing to our food & why are people in the comments acting like THIS is normal/natural. Are yall ok over there?” another viewer said.

In response to this comment, Kim said, “My thoughts exactly!! Why is foreign looking material in our food so normalized?!?”

In a follow-up video, responding to a commenter who said it was butter, the TikToker used a fork to extract the red spot. It appears to have a jelly-like substance.

Is This Common?

Over on Reddit, other customers have flagged a similar issue on their own biscuits. In the replies of these two posts, Redditors gave similar answers to those on TikTok. Both posts are on the r/whatisit subreddit.

“Looks like yellow food dye, which is often an ingredient in such products to enhance their color,” one wrote.

“Annatto,” a second determined. “It’s a natural coloring and it got clumped together. The dough didn’t get mixed enough in the process.”

A third gave a more disturbing selection, saying, “Possibly bacteria called serratia marcescens if that wasn’t left open or isn’t out of date call them and give them a lot number.”

Meanwhile, a fourth remarked, “Even though I have not bought those rolls in years, I remember seeing that occasionally, just grease/shortening/lard/butter/etc.. nothing wrong and nothing that will kill you……… Hell, when we were kids we ate some of that raw!”

And a fifth added, “The yellow food dye looks like red when it is still in the tiny bottle. And the yellow egg dye tablets also look red.”

There is no way of knowing for sure what the exact problem with the biscuit is. However, the fact that it happens on other biscuits combined with its appearance suggests that the most likely explanation is probably food dye.

‘So Passionate About Biscuits’

In an emailed conversation with BroBible, the TikToker said, “I honestly never imagined that a simple TikTok about biscuits would spark this much attention and debate!”

“When I originally posted the video, I was genuinely surprised by what I saw and thought it looked unusual enough to share,” she explained. “I certainly wasn’t expecting the internet to become so passionate about biscuits! It’s been entertaining watching the different opinions roll in, and I think the funniest part is just how divided everyone seems to be over something so simple.”

“At the end of the day, it was a lighthearted observation that turned into a much bigger conversation than I anticipated,” she concluded.
