On Wednesday many Americans got their $1,200 stimulus money that was approved by the government a few weeks ago to give relief to those affected by the pandemic. Unfortunately that 1,200 isn’t going to last long for those who could be out of work for the months due to statewide lockdowns.
On Tuesday, Democratic house representatives Tim Ryan and Ro Khanna introduced legislation that could see many Americans receiving $2,000 a month until the economy recovers from the current health crisis. The bill which is currently being called Emergency Money for the People Act, covers U.S. citizens 16 or older and those who bring in less than $130,000 a year.

A one-time check isn't enough when millions of Americans can't pay their rent, mortgages, utility bills, and are forced to choose between their health and their paychecks.

The economic impact of this virus is unprecedented for our country. As millions of Americans file for unemployment week over week, we have to work quickly to patch the dam—and that means putting cash in the hands of hard-working families,” said Tim Ryan. “Many Ohioans are just receiving—or about to receive—the first cash payment we passed in the CARES Act. Now it’s time for Congress to get to work on the next step to provide relief for those who have been hardest hit in this pandemic.”
The proposed bill would not only give adults $2,000 a month until the economy recovers, but qualifying families would get an additional $500 per child.

Under their proposal, every American age 16 older making less than $130,000 annually would receive at least $2,000 per month, while married couples earning less than $260,000 would receive at least $4,000. Families would also be eligible for an additional $500 for each child, up to $1,500.
People would be able to receive the payments through mobile applications like Venmo, PayPal or Zelle, in addition to direct deposit or checks.
