Now that the Mission: Impossible series is almost 30 years old, it can be easy to forget that the franchise wasn’t always the juggernaut we now know today and that there was about a decade or so where the films felt a little aimless.

That all changed in 2015, though, with the release of Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation. While Rogue Nation is notable for being the first film in the franchise to be directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the more important addition is that of Rebecca Ferguson as Ilsa Faust.

Truly one of the great action movie characters of the last 25 years, Ferguson’s Faust helped the franchise realize that the best way to balance out Cruise’s energy as Ethan Hunt is not with a bombastic villain but with a badass female character.

While Ferguson was the first of the Mission: Impossible franchise’s new leading ladies, she certainly wasn’t the last, as the likes of Vanessa Kirby, Hayley Atwell, and Pom Klementieff have joined the fun in recent years.

At the New York City premiere of the film, Ferguson was seen rocking a dress as show-stopping as her Mission: Impossible character as the outfit featured what can best be described as a metal snake around her neck.

In addition to Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, 2023 also sees Ferguson starring in the AppleTV+ series Silo and Denis Villeneuve’s highly-anticipated sequel to 2021’s Dune, titled Dune: Part Two.

Alongside her roles in the Mission: Impossible and Dune franchises, the 39-year-old Swedish actress is also known for her work in films such as The Greatest Showman, Life, Doctor Sleep, Men In Black: International, Reminiscence, and more.
