Mitte was best known for playing Walt Jr., the son of Bryan Cranston’s Walter White and Anna Gunn’s Skyler White, in 56 episodes of Breaking Bad across its five seasons, which ran for a total of 62 episodes from 2008 to 2013. Breaking Bad is widely considered to be one of the greatest television shows ever made.
Both the character of Walt Jr. and Mitte suffered from cerebral palsy — the character’s symptoms were more severe than Mitte’s — with Mitte becoming a prominent advocate for more roles for actors with disabilities in Hollywood.
In addition to Breaking Bad, Mitte’s credits included The Oak Room, The Recall, and The Guardians of Justice (Will Save You!), and he most recently had a role in the 2025 film Westhampton.
“It is with profound sadness we share the tragic passing of beloved actor, philanthropist, and passionate disability rights advocate RJ Mitte,” the statement reads.
