The Internet Is Baffled By ‘Round Hot Dogs’ Being Sold By A Company That SWEARS They’re Not Just Bologna Slices

There aren’t many things capable of making people Mad Online quite like arguments over largely subjective food opinions, and in my experience, all you need to do to have an army of angry randos storm your mentions is tweet out your stance on whether or not pineapple belongs on a pizza.

However, the divisive nature of that controversial offering has nothing on the one food I’d argue has served as the catalyst for more heated arguments between total strangers more than any other: hot dogs.

If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to piss off the entire city of Chicago, all you really have to do is hop on social media and admit you like putting ketchup on hot dogs. There’s also the “Is a hot dog a sandwich?” debate that will likely rage until there’s no one left on the planet to fight over it—an eternal question that became even more complicated a few years ago with the introduction of the “Cube Rule,” which asserts hot dogs are actually tacos.

However, the answer is a definitive “Yes” when it comes to a product being peddled by meat delivery service Rastelli’s, which became Twitter’s Main Character leading up to the Fourth of July after the internet discovered it was selling “round hot dogs.”

Plenty of people were quick to point out “round hot dogs” seems like a needlessly complicated way to describe “bologna.” According to Fox News, the New Jersey-based company is adamant they’re totally different things, saying the pork and beef that go into them are chopped as opposed to being “fully emulsified or liquified” in addition to being “wrapped in a collagen casing and netting” after processing

If you’re familiar with the state Rastelli’s calls home, then you probably noticed they seem to be pretty similar to the regional hangover cure that is the pork roll (a.k.a. “Taylor Ham”), although I’m sure the company would be quick to point out the inclusion of beef places the round hot dogs in a category of their own.

While they’re currently out of stock, they’ve appeared to find at least one fan who gave them their seal of approval.

However, based on how much that bun is toasted, you might want to take their culinary opinions with a grain of salt.
