Russell Crowe says he and Ryan Gosling were coming up with 'Nice Guys' sequel ideas on set
Russell Crowe just gave The Nice Guys fans the best update they’ve gotten on a sequel in years. In an interview with BroBible, Crowe opened up about his on-set chemistry with Ryan Gosling, calling it “one of the most spectacular” working relationships he’s had, while adding the pair were chomping at the bit at the idea of a sequel.
Speaking to BroBible’s Post Credit Podcast ahead of the release of his new film Unabomber — now streaming on Netflix — Academy Award-winning actor Russell Crowe recalled his time on set with Ryan Gosling and how the pair were cooking up ideas for a sequel before they even finished making the original.

“I don’t get affected by the noise on the other side of the camera,” Crowe told BroBible. “But for some reason, that kid can make me laugh at the drop of a hat.”
“We were deep into conversations about what the sequel should contain when we were doing the first one,” the Oscar winner continued. “We’ll see if I do get the opportunity to be on a film set with him again. It’ll be a joyful day for sure.”
The film had a notoriously soft opening — it debuted against The Angry Birds Movie in May 2016 and got buried at the box office, pulling in just $11.3 million to Angry Birds‘ $39 million — but has since built the kind of cult following that keeps sequel talk alive, especially in an era when Hollywood is increasingly producing legacy sequels (the Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman-starring Practical Magic 2 just hit theaters this month, nearly 30 years after the original was released).
