10 years ago, Morgan Geyser stabbed one of her classmates 19 times and left her for dead, claiming she did it for the Slender Man. 10 years later, she is asking a judge to release her from a mental institution.

Geyser, now 21, was 12-years-old when she and Anissa Weier, also 12 at the time, lured a sixth grade classmate Payton Leutner to a forest in a park in Waukesha, Wisconsin following a sleepover.

It was there that they claimed Leutner was repeatedly stabbed, supposedly to appease the Slender Man, which would earn them the right to become his servants and protect families from him.

The Slender Man is a fictional character that originated on a thread in an internet forum in 2009.

Leutner miraculously survived the attack by crawling onto a bike path where she was discovered by a person passing by and taken to a hospital.

Geyser, who performed the actual stabbings, pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide and she was sent to a psychiatric facility. Weier was also sent to a psychiatric facility after pleading guilty to attempted second-degree intentional homicide.

Earlier this month, Morgan Geyser, for the third time in three years, asked a judge for her conditional release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute where she’s lived since 2018.

In 2021, Weier was granted supervised release to live with her father and ordered to wear a GPS monitor.

“I think she’s ready to be released, and I think the doctors are going to conclude that,” said Geyser’s attorney, Anthony Cotton on Monday.

According to the Associated Press, the judge appointed three psychiatric experts to evaluate her current mental condition – one chosen by him, one chosen by Geyser and one chosen by the District Attorney’s Office.

The judge also set a hearing for April 10-11 to review their psychiatric reports and issue a ruling.

“She has achieved maximum release privileges so, at the institution, you can be highly restricted, highly locked down all the way to being able to walk the grounds and read whatever you want and take supervised trips. So, there’s nothing more she can do at the facility,” Cotton told WISN News.
