There’s a new contender for ‘Most Australian Moment of the Year‘ after this clip has surfaced where a large snake falls from the ceiling while a trio is recording a podcast episode.

While the group of three are recording their latest episode of the Sydney-based ‘Fresh Perspectives’ podcast, the current speaker is on camera when suddenly a large snake drops right out the ceiling.

His two co-hosts are trying to flag his attention and alert him to the fact that there’s now a very big snake dangling from the ceiling right behind him. But in classic Aussie fashion, he appears completely unperturbed and goes about his business recording the show.

The species in question is a Carpet Python which is a common snake species in various parts of Australia. There are also six subspecies of the Carpet Python (Morelia spilota) in Australia.

Another contender for the ‘Most Australian Video’ came back in September and it involved this same species of snake. A surfer went viral for catching waves with his pet python:

That snake isn’t all that big, right? Well, don’t let that pet fool you. Some of these carpet pythons, like the snake emerging from that ceiling above, they grow to enormous sizes.

At the end of August, a video of a Carpet Python went viral when what appeared to be a proper 16-foot-long snake was seen slithering off a roof and into a tree. This is an absolute unit of a snake:

These Carpet Pythons lay anywhere from 10-50 eggs at a time. Suffice it to say, with reproduction numbers like that there are a LOT of these snakes throughout various regions of Australia.

But, this is Australia after all. So there are plenty of predators to fatten themselves up on these snakes. They are eaten by foxes, wild dogs (dingoes), large lizards (monitors), Tiger Snakes, and other species.

All of this is a reminder that Australia really is one of the wildest places on earth.
