Serious Adam Sandler, who pops up once every few years to absolutely crush a dramatic role, is back in the first trailer for the upcoming Netflix film Spaceman.

From Johan Renck, the director of  HBO’s hit series ChernobylSpaceman also stars Academy Award-nominee Carey Mulligan and fan-favorite actor Paul Dano.

Here is the official synopsis for Spaceman, via Netflix:

“An astronaut (Sandler) realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife (Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious ancient creature (Dano) he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship.”

Spaceman is set to release on Netflix on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Sandler, who starred in three films in 2023 (Murder Mystery 2, You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah, and Leo), is also set to star in another film from the directors of Uncut Gems, which currently does not have a title or release date. The 57-year-old is also attached to a couple of Noah Baumbach projects at Netflix.

Mulligan will next be seen starring in Bradley Cooper’s Maestro, which looks set to earn her another Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. Maestro will be hitting Netflix this week on Wednesday, December 20.

As for Dano, who turned into a bonafide A-lister in recent years with starring roles in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans and Matt Reeves’ The Batman (and, to a lesser extent, the starring role in Dumb Money), he is not currently signed on to appear in anything other than an episode of Prime Video’s upcoming Mr. & Mrs. Smith series with Donald Glover.
