Every trip to the grocery store seems to highlight the ongoing strain on consumer wallets.
And the cost of meat, specifically, doesn’t appear to be slowing down. In fact, the Department of Agriculture predicts beef prices will jump 5.5%, pork 1.9%, and poultry 0.1%. In this economy, every dollar saved counts, especially if you have mouths to feed.
That’s why a Texas mother and avid thrifter, Jill (@justjill309), wanted to help her fellow consumers out. In a viral TikTok, she shares her secret to getting meat for cheap.
Sprouts Meat Hack
“So, this is my grocery cart at Sprouts,” she says, standing inside the Allen location. “I woke up at 7am and came here when they put out the [meat] for half price.”
She shows six different packages of meat in her shopping cart and says the total cost is $22.
Jill individually reveals everything she got. First, she starts with the Boneless Angus Beef Ribeye Steak. “It’s $19.77. I’m getting it for $12.85,” the content creator says.
“Some chicken thighs, originally $7.48. I’m gonna get them for $2.15. Angus Beef Thin Cuts: $5.94. Some little drumsticks: $2.84,” she reads.
“This is how I’m able to feed my family really good [meat] for a cheap price,” Jill explains. “I’m gonna take all this home, clean it, and freeze it.”
Jill told BroBible she shops at Sprouts three days a week and recently became a regular. She credits her mother for this discount discovery.
“My mom told me they discount the meat at sprouts a few years ago. I had been a few times, but recently have started going regularly,” she shared via TikTok direct message. “The meat will expire in 2 days, so I freeze immediately what I’m not going to cook that day.”
She noticed that she has the best luck finding these discounts on Thursdays.
“I’m just sharing what took me a long time to learn so people can feed themselves & their families good quality food,” the content creator shared. “I was intimidated by grocery stores like Sprouts because of the price, I just want to show people you can get good food & shop at those places, you just have to do it a certain way.”
Viewers Rush To Their Nearest Sprouts
Jill’s video racked up over 205,000 views, and many thanked Jill for sharing the hack.
“Omggggg thank youuuu , love sprouts meat but I always spend 1,000,000,000 dollars on 3 nights of meat,” one viewer commented.
“Sprouts is my fave for produce but I haven’t bought meat. def trying this! thank you,” another echoed.
“I’m [gonna] do that though. Regardless beef is so expensive!” a third stated.
Moreover, others shared their own money-saving Sprouts hacks.
“My sprouts always has deals Wednesday evenings or Friday mornings. I’ve found $12 eggs for .99!!” one commenter revealed.
“That’s me at sprouts every week. My refrigerator is full of the yellow tags,” a second said.
How To Score These Deals
Every week, the grocery chain releases flyers that announce its latest sales. However, the best time to shop is on Wednesday, the day the sales start. Most locations roll out the new weekly ads this day, which overlaps with the previous week. Therefore, you get more bang for your buck by scoring double the deals, a term known as “Double Ad Wednesday,” according to Chowhound.
Furthermore, keep your eyes peeled for the “Manager’s Special” while shopping. This appears to be what Jill scored at her Allen location. These bright yellow stickers have the new marked-down price on items nearing their their expiration date.
