Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first trailer for Star Wars: The Acolyte, which is set to be the first and only live-action Star Wars project to release in 2024.

The series, for the first time in the history of the franchise, will take place in a time period outside of the Skywalker Saga, which has been covered in all three of the main movie trilogies and series such as The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Andor.

Here is the official synopsis for The Acolyte, via Lucasfilm and Disney:

In Star Wars: The Acolyte, an investigation into a shocking crime spree pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As more clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems…

In addition to Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae in the lead role, The Acolyte also stars Amandla Stenberg, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Charlie Barnett, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Dean-Charles Chapman, Joonas Suotamo, and Carrie-Anne Moss.

Star Wars: The Acolyte will debut with a two-episode premiere on Disney+ on June 4.

As for the movie side of Lucasfilm, a Daisy Ridley-starring sequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is in the works and is set to begin production later this year.

Jon Favreau is also directing The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is scheduled to hit theaters in 2026. Logan director James Mangold is working on a Star Wars feature film, as well.
