A Mississippi woman returned to her car at midnight and was shocked by what is swimming in her leftover morning coffee.

Starbucks is etched into American culture. The franchise’s drive-thru lines are constantly packed. People have their favorite specialty orders that are always proclaimed to be better than anything ever tasted. The grip is so tight that their pumpkin spice lattes are the confirmation of fall. Well, it seems the green little two-tailed mermaid is not just coveted by people. The same seems to be true for rodents.

While the little furry creatures do not have to give a name and stand in line for their favorite Frappuccino, they are perfectly fine swimming in the leftovers, it seems. TikTok user Ali (@alicat_808) returned to her car around midnight, and she was greeted with a mouse swimming in her Starbucks cold brew.

In the video, now viewed more than 470,000 time, Ali questions, “Do I burn my car down? What do I do?” While the question itself was one of panic, the expression on her face was rather calm. She was still recording and talking as the mouse moved around, being deliberate to keep its nose just above the coffee.

“If you give a mouse a coffee, he’s going to ask to go to Target,” joked one user.

While viewers found humorous quips to add, Ali’s video enlightened some and re-traumatized others. Many commenters warned that rodents in the car is a serious issue. Many more were sure to let her know there is always more than one.

One user recounted having to replace over $2,000 worth of wiring because a mouse chewed through the wires of her car. Another said she had a mouse crawl up her shoulder while driving.

What To Do If You Find A Rodent In Your Car

Rodents in cars, sadly, are not an uncommon occurrence. Just on TikTok alone, entering the prompt: “People finding mouses [should be mice] in their car” generates countless videos of people finding rodents in cans left in their car, coffee (again), the air conditioner vent, or just running out and about.

Mice and other rodents often get into cars by running up the tires and finding an opening. They can squirm into the tiniest opening,s so the possibilities are almost endless for how they can enter. When they do enter, cabin filters and vents are ideal hiding spots and homes, so understanding the basic behavior of mice can assist in keeping them out of your car.

Mice look for warm places to shelter, making the insulation in cars attractive and comfortable. If there is a reliable food source—leftover crumbs or coffee—then they may even settle in a “this is my car now” sort of way.

If there has been a rodent in your car, or you suspect one, be sure to locate it and disinfect the car in an open area. Then, replace any chewed wiring or filters that it (or they) may have been in contact with. To prevent it from happening, peppermint oil pouches work for warding off rodents. You can also wrap wires in capsaicin tape . Moving your car often and regularly can also assist in lessening the likelihood of rodents moving in. Lastly, and probably the most important one, reducing the amount of food debris left in the car will help tremendously.

Ali confirmed she did release the coffee-hyped mouse outdoors and heeded the comments by placing traps around the car in case there were others.
