Stephen A. Smith Blows Viewers Minds With Deep Knowledge Of ‘Cars’, Weighs In On The Lightning McQueen GOAT Debate

Over the last few weeks on Twitter, people have been jokingly debating about whether or not Lightning McQueen from the Pixar movie Cars is the GOAT in his respective sport.

The meme worked its way all the way up to Stephen A. Smith, as the ESPN personality and hot take artist was asked about whether or not McQueen is the GOAT on a recent episode of his radio show.

While taking calls from viewers, Stephen A. was asked whether he thinks Lightning McQueen is the GOAT and the 56-year-old unloaded a surprising amount of Cars knowledge.

“I would tell you he wouldn’t be the GOAT. How are you gonna be the GOAT? Because you’re talking about the movie Cars, right? You’re talking about the movie Carsi, right?” Smith said.

“I mean, when you talk about Strip ‘The King’ Weathers and, and, and Lightning McQueen, they’re both tied with seven Piston Cups … You got somebody that’s tied with you? You got somebody that’s tied with you. Sorry, that ain’t gonna work. I know you tried to catch me with that. You didn’t think I knew that about that.”

Now, while I don’t want to burst everyone’s bubble, I do want to play devil’s advocate for a second and point out how quickly his production team was able to get images of Lightning McQueen on the screen, which suggests that they might have been prepared for the moment, perhaps by screening the calls they feed to Smith.

Conversely, when you Google something like “is Lightning McQueen the GOAT”, there aren’t really any readily available breakdowns, which suggests that Smith’s knowledge was, in fact, organic.

Either way, the fact that people genuinely cannot tell if Smith’s analysis of the Cars GOAT debate is real or not just proves how much of a mastery SAS has over the hot take game right now.
