Steven Soderbergh will help Matt Reeves finish 'The Batman: Part II'
Earlier this month, it was reported that production on The Batman: Part II — which had already suffered multiple delays over the years — would have to be put on hold as director Matt Reeves attends to a personal issue. That led to his friend Steven Soderbergh reaching out with an offer to help.
According to reports, Steven Soderbergh — the Oscar-winning director behind films such as Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven, Contagion, Magic Mike, Logan Lucky, and many more — personally reached out to Matt Reeves to offer him help finishing production on the sequel to The Batman.

Reeves agreed, and the pair will now close out production on The Batman: Part II — which is reportedly about 2/3 completed — together.
Soderbergh will be boots-on-the-ground on the film’s sets, saying that his goal “is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
“I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent,” Soderbergh said in a statement. “The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”
Reeves will reportedly “operate out of Los Angeles and then would be more hands-on during the movie’s post-production in L.A.,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
After the news of Soderbergh’s intervention broke, Reeves took to social media to clarify that he’s not leaving the project and share his gratitude for Soderbergh.
“Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes. 🦇”

Reeves’ personal issues have reportedly been part of the reason why The Batman: Part II took so long to coalesce — it was originally scheduled to release in October 2025 before undergoing multiple release date changes in the following years.
While the specific issue has not been disclosed, entertainment industry insider Grace Randolph said it’s “close to a Chadwick Boseman situation”. Boseman passed away of cancer in August 2020 after an undisclosed battle with the disease for four years.
This is pure speculation, but given that Reeves is continuing work on The Batman: Part II, whatever the family matter is likely concerns someone else’s health rather than his own.
“If you knew what Matt Reeves was dealing with, you would just leave him alone, as I’m going to do,” Randolph explained on her YouTube show Beyond The Trailer.
“Really, it’s not a Chadwick Boseman situation, but it’s close. And I hope it doesn’t turn into that. You should leave Matt Reeves alone.”
The Batman: Part II is currently scheduled to hit theaters on February 18, 2028. In addition to Robert Pattinson in the lead role of the Dark Knight, the film will also feature Jeffrey Wright, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell reprising their roles from the original, in addition to newcomers Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, and Charles Dance.
