Texas Senator Ted Cruz has weighed in on American Eagle’s “Great Jeans” campaign. In the process, the 54-year-old made sure to comment that Sydney Sweeney is beautiful.
The discourse around Sydney Sweeney’s new American Eagle campaign centers around the accusation that the ads are promoting eugenics. One ad that’s received particular attention sees Sweeney detail how “great jeans” — eye color, hair color, and personality — are passed down through generations.
Always looking for a chance to politicize an issue, Texas Senator Ted Cruz hopped on social media to weigh in on the Sweeney and American Eagle discourse. According to Cruz, “the Left has come out against beautiful women” — although it’s unclear exactly what prominent Democrats have taken that position.
The Senator instead appears to be taking online discourse from personally opinionated social media accounts and extrapolating it onto 50% of the country.

It’s certainly interesting to see Cruz take a stand on a woman’s looks considering that he rolled over like a sick puppy when Donald Trump insinuated that his wife was ugly.
While the discourse surrounding their “Great Jeans” campaign perhaps wasn’t they expected, American Eagle will likely be taking a “there’s no such thing as bad press,” as they’ve seen a significant spike in their stock price since announcing the campaign last week.

At this time, Sweeney — who will next be seen starring in the films Americana on August 15 and Eden on August 22 — has yet to respond to the backlash.
