Morgan Wallen and Tate McRae is the country music collaboration you didn’t know you needed. They teamed up on the song ‘What I Want‘ and, I must say, it is much better than I had expected.

Their voices sound great together!

Before we go any further here, I have to preface this article with a disclaimer. Their new track plays right into the radio-focused side of country music. It mixes pop with some twang and it is undeniably formulaic. If you are looking for something more alt-country or folky, then this is not for you.

I know there are some country music purists out there who hate Morgan Wallen and his style of music. Y’all don’t want to see a pop artist like Tate McRae in the “country” genre. I get it! But I am not one of those people. I believe there is a place for everything, everywhere, as long as it doesn’t totally suck— like Akon’s “country” album. Nobody asked for that. We don’t need that.

‘What I Want’ does not suck!

Demps, an aspiring musician in her own right, posted up at the listening party for Morgan Wallen’s upcoming album at his bar on Broadway in Nashville earlier this week. She posted a 70-second teaser of the most anticipated track with her live reaction. Take a look/listen:

I’ll be honest. Although I am a fan of both artists, I did not expect McRae’s voice to blend with Wallen’s. They have such distinct tones that I thought would clash. One might overpower the other. Their styles are so different that I had my doubts about them together. I was wrong!

There is no doubt in my mind that this song is going to be the most played track on the album. It is tailor-made for the airwaves and it will be a great transitional tune for summer into early fall. It is equal parts banger as it is slow jam. They knew what they were doing— even if the haters are furious!

The full 35-song (!!) tracklist is as follows:

There is no doubt in my mind that this album, which drops Friday, will immediately skyrocket to No. 1 by nature of Morgan Wallen being Morgan Wallen. ‘What I Want’ will be the most popular one-off song and it will very soon be WAY overplayed. Calling it now.
