Tips are an important part of a server’s income, but when one Texas Roadhouse server took matters into their own hands, a customer was left blindsided.
In a viral video, which has garnered 117,300 views, TikToker Shawn Bumpass (@bigshawnbump) shared what happened to him. The on-screen text read: “Texas Roadhouse waiter played me.”
“Why the f— my waiter from the restaurant just really tried to play me, yo,” he said. “We left her a nice $10 little tip cash.”
He continued that the bill was $64 and that he put $0 on the tip line.
“Why the f— I just get a notification today?” he said. “My s— got changed to $84.”
Moreover, he alleged that the server added a 2 in front of the zero, making it a $20 tip.
“Turns my 6 into an 8. Yo, these b—— are clever. And now I’m finna play for real,” he said. “I’m finna come into the job, do extra white s—. Watch what’s about to happen now you wanna play.”

How Did Commenters React To This Texas Roadhouse Scandal?
Commenters were divided. Many understood Bumpass’ point of view.
“I really hate the tipping culture it’s getting out of hand…” one wrote. “I don’t mind tipping just don’t demand.”
“This is never OK if you call the restaurant she’ll get fired immediately!” a second urged.
Meanwhile, a third said, “Press charges! That’s literally illegal.”
However, other commenters were more concerned with the $10 tip.
“$10 isn’t a ‘nice tip’ lmao,” a fourth added.
While a fifth said, “I mean, the server is in the wrong but $10 is not a good tip.”
Did He Contact The Restaurant?
In an email conversation with BroBible, Bumpass said that he contacted and reached out to the restaurant.
“They were just saying how they were sorry; I didn’t know what to do legally,” he said.
As of June 3, he also shared that the dispute for the payment happened that day. He noted that “other than [the] dispute, nothing else happened.”
Does This Happen A Lot?
As previously reported by BroBible, this is a common (and often illegal) issue across the country. One server came under fire on TikTok after she claimed to have altered a customer’s order by one penny. Meanwhile, another TikToker caused shockwaves after claiming that they used to work with a server who oftentimes inflated their tips.
She explained that despite the person being a “horrible” server, they were always leaving with more tips.
“I left every day with, maybe like, $100, $150. Really good days, like $200,” she noted. “But this [server] was leaving with like $350, almost $400 on good days.”
Her secret? Changing figures on customers’ receipts.
“She [had] this guy’s receipt. She got tipped $3. The total was left blank,” the TikTok user recounted. “Where it said $3, there was like a little space. And so, she took her … pen and put in a zero after the number three.”
“So that three-dollar tip turned into $30, just by a … simple zero,” she concluded.
Despite acknowledging that this practice was an “arrestable offense,” this TikToker never told on her colleague, although she says she did try to take action and stop her from doing it to other people.
