An annoyed Texas Roadhouse patron said he has been given the wrong steak three times.
Texas Roadhouse is considered a casual dining restaurant, but the thing most people don’t realize is that they serve filet mignon too. However, after multiple filet mignon orders at the eatery ended in disappointment, TikToker Kenneth Card (@kennethcard3) took to the app to put the restaurant on blast.
As he spoke to the camera about his steak dinner, on-screen text read: “Texas Roadhouse, shame on you!”
He began by explaining he bought a $30 Texas Roadhouse meal that features an eight-ounce filet mignon. However, he was taken aback when the steak brought out was sirloin. After explaining to the server that the steak was wrong, they purportedly said they would return to the kitchen for a second opinion.
The server then returned and confirmed it was sirloin. A frustrated Card then expressed how he went to the restaurant once a week for a year, and that this has now happened three times.
The TikToker has amassed 20,100 views.
BroBible reached out to Texas Roadhouse via email and to the creator via Facebook message.
As A Fellow Cook, The Customer Knew His Stuff
He noted to viewers that he had been a cook for “many years.” So, he has had a lot of experience in cooking and cutting steak. “You name it, I’ve done it,” he said. The TikToker then added that he knew the difference between different cuts of steak, “and so whenever I go out to eat I know what I get.”
In turn, Card said he called the manager over and explained how this had happened three times. But he claims the manager looked at him like he was “stupid” and “crazy,” and insisted this was impossible because there was a manager in the back approving the meals.
“What about this time?” the TikToker says he asked in response. He got no answer.
“Y’all be careful of what you’re ordering and what you pay for, because sometimes you order a filet, you be getting a sirloin and it’s like $10 steak versus 35, whatever,” he concluded. “Y’all be careful.”
People Are On His Side
Many commenters were sympathetic.
“Eating in this part of the country is becoming more and more terrifying,” one wrote.
“They were hoping you didn’t notice!” a second added.
While a third claimed, “I think they’re also selling a ‘rack’ of ribs that are missing some of the rack purposefully. Like keeping two or three ribs off to put on a combo plate.”
However, not all were supportive.
“Why do you keep going back if this continues to happen?” a fourth asked.
“I’ve never had an issue with Texas Roadhouse,” a fifth claimed.
And a sixth questioned, “Why are you going to Texas Roadhouse for a filet mignon? I’m sure there must be some restaurant in your area that is a better steakhouse or better quality if you’re gonna spend $30.”
What’s The Difference Between Tenderloin And Filet Mignon?
As reported by Miller and Carter, filet mignon comes from the tenderloin muscle along a cow’s spine. Food blog Living The Gourmet points out that this particular muscle isn’t exercised very much and doesn’t bear a lot of weight when the cow is standing. Consequently, meat from this area is usually exceptionally lean and tender. It also tends to be smaller than other steak cuts and has a fairly slim meat-to-fat ratio, according to Living The Gourmet.
Meanwhile, the blog reports that sirloin steak comes from the sirloin primal. Although this meat also comes from the rear of the cow, it is situated more in the midsection. Because this area has a lot more muscle and bears significantly more weight, this meat has a much stronger flavor. It also has a much higher meat-to-fat ratio, is less tender, and is generally a lot bigger.
@kennethcard3 Talking about getting ripped off! shame shame!
