Taco Bell’s signature drink has been a fan favorite since its inception in 2004, and the brand is not scared to mess with a good thing. Earlier in the month, the fast-food taco chain launched the Mountain Dew Baja Blast pie.
And the reviews for the limited-edition Baja Blast Pie have not been sweet.
At $19.99, the pie is sold as a whole pie with a graham cracker crust and a whipped cream border. Its vibrant teal color makes it ripe for social media fodder.
Texas-based TikTok creator Leiah (@leiahwithdacamry), who has amassed 2.3 million followers for her food reviews, shared her thoughts on the sweet treat. In a video that’s been viewed over 988,000 times so far, Leiah is greeted by the AI drive-thru attendant when she pulls up to Taco Bell.
“Welcome to Taco Bell. What can I get you?” the automated greeting asks.
“Do you guys have the Baja Blast pie?” Leiah asks. The AI’s response shocks her. “Sorry. Baja Blast Pie isn’t available right now,” it says
Immediately, a female employee interjects by correcting the AI. “Yes, we do have the Baja Blast Pie.” After the employee informs the content creator of the $20 price tag, Leiah cringes.
“$20? Oooh,” she says, shuddering. “OK, I’ll take it, and can I please have a water to flush it down?”
Baja Blast Pie Taste Test
Then, the video cuts to Leiah in her house with the pie. Appearance-wise, the dish resembles the advertisement. But she proves that cutting into it is difficult because it is a frozen dessert. “It’s dense,” she says, gripping the spatula in one hand and shaking the tin with the other to loosen the slice. “Why can’t I get this out?”
Finally, the content creator successfully gets a slice out of the tin. When she takes a bite, she scrunches her face in disgust. “I might not hate it,” she says, attempting to reassure herself. But Leiah makes a sour face after her second bite. “Honestly, it kind of tastes like a key lime pie,” she adds.
She says she wouldn’t buy the pie again, though the flavor isn’t the worst. “It’s not terrible, but it’s not the best. $20 is out of control,” Leiah states.“Overall, I would give it a 4.5, maybe a 5.”
What Do Viewers Think?
The Baja Blast Pie didn’t elicit any excitement from Leiah’s viewers, either. Instead, many were repulsed by both the price and its appearance.
“$20 for a pie is crazy,” one viewer remarked.
Another echoed, “20$ for a pie look like Colgate toothpaste.”
“That looks nauseating,” a third commented.
“It’s looks like play dough,” a fourth stated.
Even a fifth jokingly believed she had an advanced warning, courtesy of the AI drive-thru attendant. “The AI tried warning you girl,” they said.

What Is The Baja Blast Pie Supposed To Taste Like?
Leiah’s description of the pie seems be accurate. In addition, Redditors in a r/tacobell subreddit described the flavors as “creamy and smooth” with a “nice kick of Baja flavor” as well as “Keylime with more tartness.”
These flavors are echoed by Taco Bell’s press release.
It said, “Unexpected in every way, it’s the iconic tropical Baja Blast flavor reimagined as a creamy key lime-style pie that’s more than your everyday dessert. It’s a statement in a sea of stuffing.”
Whether you’re a fan of the Baja Blast, love trying the new concoctions Taco Bell whips up, or simply enjoy key lime pie, you should try the Baja Blast pie out for yourself, as it’s only available for a limited time.
