Teyonah Parris, the 36-year-old actress who plays Monica Rambeau in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, recently shared a video of her trying on her The Marvels costume for the first time to celebrate the release of the film.
The video, perhaps for obvious reasons, has since gone viral, racking up millions of views on Twitter and Instagram.
Parris first made her debut in the Disney+ series WandaVision and reprised her role as Monica Rambeau in The Marvels, which was released in movie theaters earlier this month.
Alongside Parris, The Marvels also stars Academy Award winner Brie Larson as Captain Marvel, Iman Vellani as Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-joon, Zenobia Shroff, Mohan Kapur, Saagar Shaikh, and Samuel L. Jackson.
Unfortunately for Parris, Larson, and the rest of The Marvels cast, the film made just $45 million at the domestic box office during its opening weekend, which is the lowest ever for an MCU film. It’ll certainly be interesting to see how the performance of the film impacts Larson’s future with the franchise, as the 34-year-old Oscar winner certainly hasn’t been shy about her feelings regarding the reception of the character.
“I don’t know. Does anyone want me to do it [play Captain Marvel] again? I really don’t know. I don’t have the answer to that,” she told Variety back in 2022.
Given the struggles the franchise has gone through this year, Marvel Studios seems to be largely hitting the pause button in 2024, as Deadpool 3 is currently the only movie that the studio will release next year following the delays of Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and Blade.
In addition to her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Parris, a graduate of the Julliard School, is also known for her work in projects such as Mad Men, The Good Wife, Dear White People, Chi-Raq, Empire, If Beale Street Could Talk, Candyman, They Cloned Tyrone, and more.
