Netflix Unveils Epic Trailer For ‘The Midnight Sky’, George Clooney’s Post-Apocalyptic Space Adventure

As far as I’m concerned, space movies represent — pound-for-pound — arguably the strongest and most consistent film genre. Just think about the sheer array of entries into the genre during our lifetimes alone: Apollo 13, Life, Sunshine, Interstellar, Armageddon, Infinity War AND Endgame, Moon, Contact, Prometheus, Gravity, The Martian, Total Recall, Guardians of the Galaxy, E.T., The Fifth Element etc, etc. And that’s not even mentioning the Star Wars and Star Treks of the world.

Add in the proven formula of space movies with George Clooney’s directorial talents and an absolutely stacked cast, and the result is The Midnight Sky, which has immediately vaulted itself to the top of my Most Anticipated Movies List for the rest of 2020 (not that there’s much competition, but I digress).

The Midnight Sky marks Clooney’s seventh time in the director’s chair, as the iconic 59-year-old actor has also directed films such as Confessions of a Dangerous Mind, Good Night, and Good Luck, Leatherheads, The Ides of March, The Monuments Men, and Suburbicon.

Here’s the official synopsis for The Midnight Sky, via Netflix:

This post-apocalyptic tale follows Augustine (George Clooney), a lonely scientist in the Arctic, as he races to stop Sully (Felicity Jones) and her fellow astronauts from returning home to a mysterious global catastrophe. Clooney directs the adaptation of Lily Brooks-Dalton’s acclaimed novel Good Morning, Midnight, co-starring David Oyelowo, Kyle Chandler, Demián Bichir and Tiffany Boone.

In addition to Clooney, The Midnight Sky also stars Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler, David Oyelowo, and Demián Bichir.

The Midnight Sky will hit Netflix in the United States on Wednesday, December 23.
