Despite being, technically, a “comic book action movie”, Avengers: Endgame ranks among the most emotional movies released this year.

Wrapping up a decade’s worth of storytelling, Avengers: Endgame brought together all of the biggest characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for one final climactic battle for the fate of the universe against Thanos.
As we all now know, the film culminated in arguably the most emotional moment in the history of the franchise, as Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark sacrificed his life to save not only his loved ones but half of the known universe.
However, while we know what happened, fans never got to find out how Tony felt about it, as the beloved genius billionaire playboy philanthropist passes away without being given a final word. Until now, that is.
With Hollywood’s prestigious awards season just around the corner, Marvel Studios has released the full Avengers: Endgame script for the world to see, and in that script, Tony Stark’s final, dying thoughts are revealed.
The script shows the moment he’s comforted by his wife Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) after she learns he will die from his injuries.
Heartbreakingly, it seems Tony has regrets, as his final thought is… ‘I’m sorry.’
“Tony, look at me. We’re going to be okay…” Pepper says in the script.
The next direction reads: “He stares at her, tears welling. I’m sorry.” [via Digital Spy]
While the scene was already emotionally devastating as is, this added context that gives insight into Stark’s dying thoughts only add more gravitas and weight to what is arguably the defining moment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thus far.
