The last Toys R Us store has closed down, leaving many heavy-hearted. For all of us Toys R Us kids who did not wanna grow up, we have received a quick education on how the retail landscape is rapidly transforming and if you don’t adapt you will perish.
Toys R Us shut down their 800+ stores across the United States, instantly obliterating one of your childhood institutions right before your eyes. The toy store’s website left a heartfelt goodbye:
“Thanks to each of you who shared your amazing journey to (and through) parenthood with us, and to every grandparent, aunt, uncle, brother and sister who’s built a couch-cushion rocket ship, made up a hero adventure, or invented something gooey. Promise us just this one thing: Don’t ever grow up. Play on!”
It might be time to grow up because you can no longer be a @ToysRUs kid. Toys''R''Us is closing all of its remaining stores today. This is the company's heartbreaking goodbye message…#ToysRUs #ToysRUSKid #DontWantToGrowUp #n4tm #KMOV pic.twitter.com/xZ9Ymlcwgr

An extremely sad pic of Geoffrey the Giraffe leaving a vacant Toys R Us with a suitcase left many looking for tissues. The photo was taken by Rene Johnpiere, who is believed to be a Toys R Us employee.
The internet, of course, had jokes about the closing of Toys R Us.

In one last bright spot of all this doom and gloom, one good Samaritan purchased $1 million worth of toys from the dying retail chain and donated it to children. The generous philanthropist purchased $1 million in toys from the Toys R Us in Raleigh, North Carolina and donated them to local children. So all is not terrible on this day.
