Fort Lauderdale Woman Orders Pizza. She Didn’t Expect Uber Eats Driver To Try And Shake Her Down For It: ‘How Much Is The Food Worth To You?’

Food delivery is incredibly popular in the United States—and, when it works, it can be great.

Every day, thousands of meals are delivered across the country. According to one YouGuv survey from January 2025, 40% of Gen Z and Millennials order from food delivery apps at least once a week.

Usually, these food deliveries are completed without issue. However, there’s always a chance that things can go awry. From delivery drivers demanding additional cash before dropping off your order to drivers straight up eating your fries, a food delivery can go off the rails pretty quickly.

Now, an internet user is sharing her own experience of a food delivery gone wrong. According to TikTok user Liv (@livigoldi), what started as a normal Uber Eats order ended in a negotiation about how much a pizza is really worth.

What Went Wrong With This Uber Eats Order?

In a video with over 300,000 views, Liv recounts how an Uber “driver just held our food for ransom and tried to shake us down to deliver it.”

According to Liv, she was celebrating. So, she decided to order a pizza with Uber Eats, something she says she “never” does.

After about an hour and a half, she began to wonder about the status of her delivery. Looking at her phone, she realized the driver had been in the area for, she estimates, about a half an hour.

“And at first I thought maybe he was delivering somebody else’s food, but then he started going further away from us,” she says. “He got on the highway, so I called him.”

Things Get Weird

Liv says that when she began to question the driver about the location of her food, his answers changed considerably. First, he said he delivered it. Then, he began asking Liv a strange question.

“Then he starts saying, ‘How much is the food worth to you?’” Liv says. “And we’re like, ‘What are you talking about? Have you delivered the food, or do you still have the food?’ ‘Cause it’s not marked as delivered on the app. It’s still showing me his active location. And he’s getting further and further away, and then he just starts repeating, ‘What would you pay for the food? How much is the food worth?’”

After five minutes on the phone, she hung up. Liv says it became “very clear that he was not planning to deliver our food.”

They Get The Food Themselves

Still wanting pizza, Liv says she grabbed her keys and headed toward the Blaze Pizza from which she originally ordered. On the way, she got a call she believed to be from Uber.

“This woman is telling us a jumble of things, and it sounds like she’s trying to say that our order was mistakenly swapped with somebody else’s,” Liv says. “And then I was like, ‘Who is this?’ Because we were just speaking to a man, and now this is a woman calling us. ‘Are you with the man? Like, where is our order?’”

“And then we were like, ‘We’re the order with the Blaze Pizza,’” Liv continues. “Then she was like, ‘Oh.’ And she hung up.”

Liv eventually just got the pizza from the Blaze Pizza location. All the while, she could still see the man driving around with her order.

“So he hadn’t delivered it, marked it as delivered, or cancelled it on his end,” Liv summarizes. “So, I chatted with the support at Uber Eats, which was so incredibly unhelpful. So confusing. And then they offered me 20% credit for my troubles and tried to tell me he was still on his way.”

Is This A Known Scam?

While the specifics of Liv’s situation make it unique, there are plenty of stories of delivery drivers demanding more from customers before they fulfill an order.

For example, one woman claimed that her DoorDash driver asked her for cash upon arriving at her residence, saying that his card did not work at the store. Users on Reddit have also shared similar stories of receiving messages from drivers asking for more money before dropping off their order.

This practice violates most delivery apps’ terms of service. In the case of Uber, this appears to constitute fraud by the company’s definition. Consequently, Uber requests that customers reach out and report the driver’s conduct.

Commenters Have Uber Eats Complaints

In the comments section, users said that Liv wasn’t the only person with a poor Uber Eats experience.

“I got food poisoning and was HOSPITALIZED OVERNIGHT, and uber refused to refund me because I didnt make them aware directly after receiving my order,” alleged a user.

“Uber eats has the the worst customer service they never resolve anything,” added another. “I didn’t get an order once and they said it didn’t quality for assistance.”

“I’m banned from uber eats for how bad I cussed a representative for also offering me 20% credit for food I never received,” stated a third. “(got the refund tho).”
