In what can only be described as a shocking and slightly disturbing scene, an Uber Eats robot was crushed by an oncoming train in the Miami area while stuck on the tracks.
Miami native Guillermo Dapelo filmed a video of the incident, which showed the machine motionless on the tracks for about 15 minutes before the train came barrelling in at full speed.
Brightline Train Destroys Stranded Uber Eats Delivery Robot In Miami
“I was walking my dogs around 8:00 p.m. and I saw the food car standing on the train tracks,” Dapelo told Storyful. “An Uber Eats delivery [person] had called the company to let them know where it was standing and within a matter of minutes the train approached and is captured on the video.”
“Oh, it’s gonna crush it!” Dapelo can be heard saying worriedly in the video before the train plowed through the stranded robot.
The train was brought to an immediate stop, and those in the area expressed concerns moving forward.
“Automated, AI, all that is really, really scary. I think people need to be a little more concerned than they really are,” one woman said of the incident.
In a similarly concerning scene, several Waymo robotaxis brought the city of San Francisco to a halt recently after a mass power outage.
Videos showed drivers trying, and failing, to navigate around the stranded autonomous vehicles. The incident caused residents to express concerns about how the autonomous vehicles would handle a situation that called for an emergency evacuation.
Thankfully, this incident was far more isolated. And, in even better news, there wasn’t actually any food inside the robot at the time. But Brightline passengers were undoubtedly in for a bit of a shock as their train came to a quick stop following the impact.
