An unemployed Florida man turned to an Etsy witch during his job hunt. Let’s just say, things are going a little too well.
It’s no secret that the job market feels literally cursed. Stories abound of eager applicants who’ve sent out hundreds of applications, only to get a few interviews. At this point, almost any help is entertained. So one Florida man decided to seek magical help, literally. He turned to an Etsy witch.
When William Rath (@william.rath) reached out to an Etsy witch to help in his job hunt, he was probably, like so many in this weird economy, desperate and confused. The former safari driver and recent law school graduate decided to take the chance and dabble in forces unknown.
It’s going amazingly. Across over 30 TikToks, Rath has detailed his journey from dejected job hunter to a man with real options.
He decided to seek witchy help, he tells BroBible, “because my followers were jokingly telling me to get one.”
So he got a recommendation for MysticTarotGuide (@mystictarotguidee), and wizardry ensued.
He says he went from having very few interviews to having so many that he couldn’t fit them all on a single day. “Guys, the Etsy witch needs to chill,” he says. Why? Five days after he posted about his Etsy witch session, he’s had nine interviews. “I’m a human being. I’m tired,” he says of the exciting developments.
His plan? To ask MysticTarotGuide to “cool” the reading. He says he didn’t actually pay for a spell; he got a tarot reading. He says he wanted to know when he’d be getting a job—one in his preferred field: law or marketing.
Looking at the numbers he’s racking up with his job journey, he understands what marketing and storytelling look like in 2026. He’s received over 969,000 views on one video, and some of the comments have upwards of 20,000 likes.
As for whether or not it’s actually magic, he says that feedback he’s getting is that “the companies like my personality.” He says he thinks he’s “demonstrating a confidence that I did not have before.” Clearly, confidence is magic.
Who Is The Etsy Witch? Asking For A Friend
Demonstrating how ready people are to work, the internet is laser-focused on one thing: the name of the witch. After that, there are several suggestions about how Rath should handle this tsunami of opportunity.
“I think your next role should be in witch marketing,” says Tara (@tdips21).
Other users remind Rath that an enchanted path can be fraught with danger. “Be careful not to piss off the magic and undo all of the good fortune by getting bossy with it,” another viewer cautions.
Then Karryn Nagel (@karrynnagel) gets in on the fun, helping Rath “complain” about his newly turned good fortune. “My steak is too juicy, my lobster is too buttery,” she quips.
What Exactly Is An Etsy Witch?
Time Magazine reports that though Etsy banned witches from the platform in 2015, they can often be found under the “entertainment” category. That source reports, “The Etsy witch is the latest iteration of people looking for assistance from the divine in a period of unrest.”
Many witches have found a new domain online in social media spaces. TikTok is popular, and Etsy acts as the sales platform where the witches can offer services for a fee. Witchcraft and wellness also often collide in spiritual spaces (consider affirmations and manifestations). Now, some folks hire an Etsy witch to help them with their own wellness routine or path to personal growth.
The “witch conversation” also points to another issue: the differentiation between magic and tarot. We reached out to MysticTarotGuide for an explanation but have not yet heard back.
However, practitioners say that tarot relates to symbols, intuition, and direction. Tarot is “a tool for healing,” artist and practitioner Rachel Howe told BK Magazine. “We can all heal ourselves, but first we have to know ourselves in order to know how to heal ourselves, and to have access to that.”
On the other hand, spells aim to impact reality in measurable ways. That requires focus and willpower. Spells also consist of directive words (or emoji), explained one magical practitioner. She wrote on her Medium page, “The word ‘spell’ comes from ancient languages, and in general, it means to signify, to relate, or to talk.” So in a very real way, you’re speaking the thing you desire/hope for into existence.
As for Rath, when asked if he’s going to start casting spells, his reply is simple: “I got a reading, not a spell! The Etsy witch predicted when I would land the job, but I think this will be the only time I [will] use an Etsy witch because spell-stuff isn’t for me!”
