‘I Can’t Eat This’: Florida Woman Orders Ahi Tuna Tacos. Then She Realizes What Ahi Tuna Actually Is

Working in the service industry means dealing with all types of customers. Some are pleasant (you might even look forward to them coming in), some are challenging but fine enough, and others make you want to quit mid-shift.

One bartender’s recent experience might fall into the last category, as a woman kept blaming her own mistakes on her server.

Customer Has Ahi Tuna Meltdown

In a viral video with more than 43,000 views, bartender Austin Cheffin (@austin_cheffin) shared a frustrating experience he had with a customer.

“So I just got home from bartending. The service industry reminds me why people are so f—— stupid,” he starts.

Austin explains what happened during happy hour at his bar. A woman sat down and ordered from the small food menu, choosing the ahi tuna tacos.

When the tacos arrived, she looked at them funny. Austin, being a good bartender, checked in with her.

“Is everything OK? Can I get you anything? Do you need anything?” he recalls asking her.

That’s when things went sideways.

“Is this raw tuna?” she asked.

“I go, ‘Yes, ahi tuna is raw,'” Austin recalls.

“I can’t eat this. Get this away from me. I’m not paying for it,” he says she responded curtly.

Austin handled it professionally. “I was like, ‘OK, of course,'” he recounts.

The woman decided to order something else from the menu, the buffalo chicken empanadas, which were $10 for two small empanadas.

When those arrived, Austin again checked to make sure everything was OK.

This time, her response was even worse.

“‘I f—— hate you,'” she told him, per Austin.

Austin’s reaction? He laughed in her face.

She continued saying, “I f—— hate you. Why didn’t you tell me that only two came in this?”

“Why didn’t you know that ahi tuna was f—— raw?” Austin thought to himself.

What Is Ahi Tuna?

Ahi tuna (also known as yellowfin or bigeye tuna) is commonly served raw or rare in dishes like sushi, sashimi, and poke bowls.

According to Crowd Cow, this species of tuna is typically described as having a “mild, meaty flavor with firm, large flakes” and is often served as sashimi-grade fish, meaning it’s safe to eat raw when properly handled and frozen.

The fish is commonly seared and left rare in the middle, grilled, or served completely raw. When cooked, many restaurants serve it intentionally undercooked to preserve its texture and flavor.

But ahi tuna isn’t the only menu item that catches diners off guard. Other dishes commonly served raw or undercooked include beef tartare, carpaccio, ceviche, oysters, and rare steaks.

Food Network notes that ahi tuna is actually a healthy choice, providing high-quality protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and nutrients like vitamins B6 and B12.

Commenters React

“People got sooo much meaner after 2020,” a top comment read.

“She was expecting tuna fish tacos apparently,” a person said.

“I had a guy recently argue with me that his tequila sunrise wasn’t made right because I didn’t make it with Tito’s….I’ve never prayed for patience more in my life,” another wrote.

“You need to work in a dive bar. You can cuss people right out,” a commenter added.
