‘I’ve Seen Some Mixed Reviews’: New York Woman Sees Whole Foods Customers Get Filet Mignon And Lobster From $9.99 Mystery Bag. Then She Tries It Herself

A New York woman decided to purchase a Whole Foods mystery bag for $10 after seeing another couple score expensive items. She couldn’t believe what she found in the bag. However, viewers suggested that not all customers get that lucky.

TikToker A (@simplyapril22) tells viewers that she decided to try Whole Foods‘ “Too Good To Go” bags after seeing another TikToker receive lobster and filet mignon for just $9.99.

She opens the bag in the car and finds a $160 kit of caviar inside.

“I have actually never really eaten caviar besides as, like, a decor item on a dinner plate,” she says.

She can’t believe she only got it for $10 and decides to get McDonald’s nuggets, potato chips, and crème fraîche to sample the caviar at home. The video has reached over 449,000 views as of March 19.

In a follow-up video, the TikToker rates the caviar a “6.5” out of 10. She wrote, “I just don’t think that it’s worth the $160, but if someone offered it to me, I wouldn’t say no to eating it.”

She tries the caviar with crème fraîche on potato chips and chicken nuggets and notes that she preferred the chicken nuggets.

How Can You Get A Whole Foods Too Good To Go Bag?

Too Good To Go is a platform that partners with grocery stores, bakeries, and restaurants to pack up unsellable-but-still-good food into cheap mystery bags. Users end up getting high-quality food for around a third or less of the sale price.

Whole Foods offers several categories of Too Good To Go bags, according to a press release.

Customers can choose from bags that include prepared foods, bakery items, dry groceries, frozen or refrigerated groceries, seafood, meat, produce, and florals. Whole Foods has around 570 participating locations.

The number of available bags varies by time and location, so some areas may be more competitive for customers who are trying to score a mystery bag.

Are Too Good To Go Bags Always This Lucky?

The TikToker ordered two more Whole Foods Too Good To Go bags to see if her first purchase was just “beginner’s luck.” This time she tries the meat and bakery bags.

She calls the meat bag “decent,” sharing that she received cut chicken wings, ground beef, and tandoori-spiced chicken breasts. In the bakery bag, she pulls out banana nut muffins, cherry turnovers, and croissants.

“I fear it was beginners luck. My second try at too good to go was a 6/10 experience,” she wrote in the caption.

In the comments of her viral video, other viewers said they haven’t lucked out like the TikToker yet.

“I tried the Too Good To Go app for like 2 months and it was a MESS. A big bag full of stale muffins, food ordered from a food truck that wasn’t even there,” one said.

Another lamented, “EVERY TIME I do tgtg for Whole Foods I get like 4 pounds FOUR POUNDS of day old tuna salad!”

However, some said they’ve scored a one-off lucky bag, too.

“I got 10 wing dings worth $6, a chicken breast worth like worth $5, and two Duck Breast worth $25!” a viewer shared.

Too good to go is so fun. I got $60 worth of flowers for $10,” a second wrote.
