Former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink has had a prolific career as an author since his active duty time. We’ve covered Jocko Willink‘s books and advice extensively here on BroBible because there’s something about his advice that seems to resonate really well with our readership.

As a recent guest on the Success! How I Did It podcast, Jocko Willink discussed why you should wake up at 4:30am every day. His main argument is: why would you not wake up early? Which, to be fair, is a good point in theory because you add more hours to your day but in practice waking up early can be miserable.

Jocko’s all ‘it doesn’t feel good at 4:30 when you wake up’ but by the time 7am rolls around you’re feeling great! I woke up about 30 minutes ago. Actually, I was awake between 5-6:30am trying to fall back asleep and managed to conk out only to have my alarm go off shortly thereafter. The thought of getting up every single day at 4:30am is nauseating. I’m serious. Waking up that early makes me feel sick to my stomach and I cannot even begin to wrap my mind around doing that every damn day.

It all sounds so great in theory. And his advice about discipline makes sense in theory. But it’s not like you can just force yourself to fall asleep on the spot and get that early bedtime he’s talking about. It seems like a lot of dominoes needs to fall into place for this sleep cycle to actually work, but it might be worth trying if you’re the type of person who needs more hours in the day.
